Ontario company first in North America to receive ISO 50001 certification for energy management

Media Advisory What: St Marys Cement–Bowmanville is the first North American industrial organization to receive the International Organization for Standardization's (ISO) ISO 50001 certification. The ISO 50001 standard is a framework for industrial facilities seeking to manage their energy use. The processes adopted and leading to the ISO 50001 certification allowed the Bowmanville plant to reduce its energy consumption by over $1million in 2011 and approximately $1 million more in savings are expected in 2012. Who: The official presentation of the ISO 50001 certificate will be made by Michael Deslisle, President at International Certification Services (ICS), to Erik Madsen, CEO at VCNA, St Marys Cement Inc. There will also be short presentations by Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster and Operations Manager at St Mary's Cement–Bowmanville, Fabio Garcia, who will outline the energy and environment benefits attributable to achieving ISO 50001 certification. When: Thursday, June 7, 2012 @ 11:00 AM Where: Bowmanville Cement Plant 400 Waverly Road South Bowmanville, ON L1C 3K3 Directions: Exit 401 at Waverley Road in Bowmanville. Go South on Waverley Road. Turn right at end of Waverley Road - immediately before St Marys Cement Sign, follow plant road down to main plant (stay left at fork in road). Presentation will take place in the Mechanical Maintenance Building, directly across from Main Office.
