Sep 24th, 2014 4:10 AM

The Pristine Coast, a documentary written, produced and directed by BC film maker Scott Renyard, focuses on the impact of current salmon farming practices on wild salmon and beyond. Renyard explores the history and science of declining fish populations in the North Pacific and Atlantic oceans, including the collapse of the cod population. He also captures stories of real people who have witnessed impacts of salmon farms first hand and their efforts to stop the practice. Highlighted in the film is biologist Alexandra Morton’s journey as she discovers the diseases, viruses and parasites that have been introduced through salmon farming. The Pristine Coast premiers at the Vancouver International Film Festival on September 27, 2014 at 8:30 p.m. at Cineplex Odeon International Village Cinemas. For the full schedule, please see below. Renyard is also the director and producer of Who killed Miracle, a film that won the prestigious Yorkton Golden Sheaf award for best nature documentary in 2010. The Pristine Coast is nominated for VIFF’s Impact Award, a juried award based on the potential for the winning film to stimulate positive change.
