Media Advisory: From Salmon Are Sacred, 26th April 2010 - British Columbia, Canada Walking on the Wild Side with Alexandra Morton - Schedule April 26 to May 8, 2010 All roads and rivers lead to Victoria for the final leg of THE GET OUT MIGRATION to support wild salmon. The campaign will culminate on May 8 with a Rally on the steps of the BC Legislature with Fin Donnelly MP, Grand Chief Stewart Phillip and Chief Bob Chamberlin. For more details (itinerary, posters, photos etc.) please visit: www.salmonaresacred.org Today, Alexandra Morton is walking from Eve River to Sayward joined by Ogwila'ogwa (Molina Dawson) - a 14 year-old young lady from Kingcome Village. Other migrants include - Quoashinis Lawson and her 11 year-old daughter Laterra who left Tofino (April 25th) joined by Ittatsoo elder Rose Wilson. Elena Edwards leaves Hope on Wednesday for a 'Paddle for Wild Salmon' down the Fraser River and will meet the migration in Victoria after crossing the Georgia Strait. Tomorrow (April 27) • The Get Out Migration expects to be at the Wild Salmon Narrows (north of Quadra Island @ midday) to deliver eviction notices to three Norwegian companies (Marine Harvest, Cermaq and Grieg) who control 92% of BC's salmon farms. • A helicopter and boats are available for media - logistical details can be arranged through contact Don Staniford (contact info below). • Michelle Nickerson of the Ripple Effect, (who is slated to swim 1,400 km of the Fraser River in August) will swim a lap of one of the salmon farm with a remote operated video camera deployed in the water. Wednesday (April 28), following a rally at Sprint Square in Campbell River, First Nations and fishermen will politely hand-deliver and return 25 farmed salmon which escaped from Marine Harvest farm in October 2009. Additional events are planned for Courtenay (29th), Fanny Bay (30th), Qualicum River (1st May), Qualicum Beach (2nd), Nanaimo/Gabriola Island (4th), Ladysmith (5th), Duncan (6th) and Sidney (7th). On April 23, Two hundred supporters joined Alexandra Morton on the road from Port McNeill for a send-off ceremony hosted by the Namgis First Nation. Well-wishers closed down the Island Highway.
