Wild Salmon Warriors Rally

Aug 30th, 2011 4:30 AM

Media Advisory (August 29, 2011) Wild Salmon Warriors from across the province are coming together to take a stand for wild salmon, an icon of Supernatural BC. The Cohen Commission is looking into the collapse of Fraser River sockeye salmon in 2009. Last week the Commission heard testimony from Dr. Kristi Miller, a federal fisheries scientist, who identified a parvovirus which could be a major factor to the Fraser River sockeye collapse. The same "mortality related signature" associated with this virus could be found in farmed salmon. This likely link to the fish farm industry is alarming. Along with drumming and singing, a Wild Salmon Dance by Josette Jim and a Hoop Dance by Gary Abbott, there will be shattering of clay salmon, symbolic of the fate of wild salmon if the fish farm industry passes on deadly diseases to wild salmon stocks.
