News Release – For immediate Release Nick Benkovich named OMWA’s 2008 President Belleville, May 19, 2008 - At the Ontario Municipal Water Association’s recent annual general meeting in London, Nick Benkovich, Director of Water & Wastewater Services for the City of Greater Sudbury, was elected OMWA’s 2008 President. “I am familiar with the unique geographic, climatic, and financial challenges confronting many of Ontario’s northern, rural, and smaller water supply providers and municipalities and hope to continue OMWA’s outreach efforts in those areas“, said Nick Benkovich, in accepting the position of President of OMWA. “The water sector in Ontario is surely very lucky – because no matter what area of the province, or what aspect of the water sector they represent, water people seem to share a common trait – that of commitment to service,” he added. Nick Benkovich has been an active volunteer in the waterworks industry for many years both as a Director of the Northeastern Ontario Waterworks Conference and also as an Ontario Municipal Water Association Director since 2003. He is also a member of the Water Environment Association of Ontario (WEAO) and has served on a variety of provincial committees dealing with a wide range of water and wastewater issues. Nick Benkovich takes over the position from outgoing OMWA president Diane Gagner. “I would like to compliment Diane on her great work as President in promoting the Ontario Municipal Water Association. She has provided strong and principled leadership to our board in her own unique style and will surely be a tough act to follow”, said Nick Benkovich. Nick is the past recipient of the OMWA Award for Exceptional Merit for 2006 (presented annually for exceptional service to the OMWA and the waterworks industry) and the Don Black Award in 2007 (presented annually in recognition of outstanding and dedicated service to the principles of the Ontario Municipal Water Association). Nick lives in Sudbury and is married to wife Carole. They have two children Katie (25) and Victoria (23).
