Barrie High Schools Advance to Ontario Envirothon Championships

BARRIE HIGH SCHOOLS ADVANCE TO ONTARIO ENVIROTHON CHAMPIONSHIPS Environmental Education: 2008 Ontario Envirothon Regional Results for Renfrew Region, Dufferin-Simcoe Region, Leeds-Grenville Region and Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Region On Wednesday April 23, high school students across Ontario tested their environmental smarts at the regional level for the opportunity to compete at the Ontario Envirothon Championships. Mackenzie High School from Deep River, St. Peter’s Secondary School from Barrie, St. Michael Catholic High School from Kemptville and North Dundas District High School from Chesterville won in their regions and will go on to the Ontario Envirothon Championships, to be held May 7 to 10 at Tim Horton Onondaga Farms in St. George, ON. WHO: Renfrew Region: Mackenzie High School, Deep River, ON Dufferin-Simcoe Region: St. Peter’s Catholic Secondary School, Barrie, ON Leeds-Grenville Region: St. Michael Catholic High School, Kemptville, ON Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Region: North Dundas District High School, Chesterville, ON All teams will go on to compete against another 18 teams from regions across Ontario. WHERE: Tim Horton Onondaga Farms in St. George, ON WHEN: May 7-10, 2008 WHAT: • Ontario Envirothon: The team sport for environmental smarts. • Envirothon gets students outdoors to experience nature first hand and hands on. • Envirothon uses field testing to develop critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork and communication skills. • High school students from 22 regions across Ontario compete for top prize in a provincial environmental competition. • Top team from the Ontario Envirothon Championships will go on to represent Ontario at the Canon Envirothon, a North American competition to be held in Arizona this July. • Envirothon reaches over 5,000 Ontario students each year. The results for all regions will be posted at www.ontarioenvirothon.on.ca as they become available.
