Media Release - For Immediate Release Two Feathers Forest Products (LP) draft Environmental Screening Report is now available for review and comment (Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, Ontario, July 17, 2009) Two Feathers Forest Products, LP (TFFP) has released a draft Environmental Screening Report (ESR) for public comment and review. The draft ESR will be available for review at www.twofeatherswood.com between Friday, July 17, 2009 and Friday August 14, 2009. TFFP is a partnership involving Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, Pikangikum First Nation, Eagle Lake First Nation and Finland based Wood Tech Group Canada. TFFP is proposing to build a value-added forest products facility in the Municipality of Red Lake and Eagle Lake First Nation. The Red Lake site will house log sorting, milling, and chipping facilities, as well as a 9.9MW biomass cogeneration facility to generate electricity for sale into the Ontario power grid. Processed lumber will be shipped by truck to the Eagle Lake facility, which will include planer lines and assembly factories for construction of pre-fabricated buildings and other value added components for distribution to the Asian and European markets. An environmental assessment is required by the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act as a result of Federal funding for the project as well as locating the project on First Nations land. These assessments are documented in the ESR. TFFP retained Stantec Consulting Ltd. (Stantec) in November, 2008 to prepare the environmental assessment, which meets Canadian Environmental Assessment Act standards. Stantec has completed appropriate environmental and socio-economic inventories of the sites in order to prepare the assessment. Agencies, First Nations, public, and other stakeholders have been engaged throughout and their respective interests are reflected in the project\'s design and the environmental assessment. A Notice of Commencement was available for comment on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry for 14 days, which ended in mid-April, 2009, and no comments were received. To view the Notice of Commencement, go to http://www.ceaa.gc.ca/050/details-eng.cfm?CEAR_ID=46490. TFFP invites all interested stakeholders to review and comment on the Two Feathers Value-Added Forest Products Project Environmental Screening Report. Please submit comments to Shawna Peddle, Senior Project Manager, Stantec, (519-836-6050 or shawna.peddle@stantec.com) on or before August 14, 2009 at 4:30 pm. Comments received from stakeholders will be addressed in the final ESR as appropriate.
