Media Advisory Napanee area public school students visit First Light Solar Park to kick off Earth Week TORONTO, ON - Renewable energy developers SunEdison and SkyPower Limited will demonstrate the benefits of solar energy to local public school students at the award winning First Light solar park in Stone Mills, Ontario, on April 15. Grade 7 and 8 students from two Napanee area schools will visit the First Light I Solar Park - Canada's first fully-operational, utility-scale solar park. The students will visit a week before Earth Day to learn about how photovoltaic (PV) solar power works and how harvesting solar power will help protect the environment. They will be participating in a walking tour of the solar park, including demonstrations of the weather station and how solar energy is converted into electricity. They will also be able to examine a real, de-energized solar panel. First Light Solar Park, a joint venture project between SunEdison, a subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials (NYSE: WFR), and SkyPower Limited was awarded the "Solar PV Project of the Year for Ground Mount" by the Canadian Solar Industry Association (CanSIA) in 2009. The site covers 90 acres of land and is expected to generate more than 10 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity in its first year of operation, enough electricity to power approximately 1,000 homes for one year..
