Tour Vaughan City Hall and Woodbridge's Archetype Sustainable House

Oct 4th, 2013 5:08 AM

(October 3, 2013) There are two exciting events happening in Vaughan and Woodbridge on Saturday, October 5 as part of Green Energy Doors Open. Visitors are invited to explore Vaughan City Hall between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Vaughan City Hall was completed in 2011 and built to LEED Gold standards. Once certified, it will become one of the largest publicly owned buildings to achieve this standard. Vaughan’s new City Hall is a leading example of the City’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Vaughan City Hall is located at 2141 Major Mackenzie Drive. In Woodbridge, the Archetype Sustainable House at The Living City Campus at Kortright is inviting people to drop by who are interested in learning about viable, sustainable housing. Through education, training, market transformation and partnership programs it will influence how communities are built, planned, constructed and lived-in to minimize ecological footprints and improve people‚ and quality of life. Two semi-detached houses serve as models of the next generation of green homes. Showcasing sustainable technologies, materials and practices, and promoting a holistic approach to home and community building, these demonstration homes provide a learning facility for trades, builders, students and homeowners. The design of the houses are the result of a national competition conducted by Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) and the Design Exchange. The Archetype Sustainable House, located at 9550 Pinevalley Drive, is offering three tours this Saturday: 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Green Energy Doors Open 2013 is the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association’s annual, single-day showcase of the province-wide green energy economy. Green Energy Doors Open is an opportunity to provide free-of-charge access to individual, community, public and commercial sustainable energy projects, businesses, manufacturing sites, education programs and other related initiatives. "We are excited to have over 60 great hosts sharing their stories during Green Energy Doors Open," says Kristopher Stevens, Executive Director of OSEA. "Sustainable energy has the power to drive Ontario's prosperity. These amazing folks are showing us how."   We encourage all users, producers and advocates of sustainable energy to open their doors in order to raise awareness, understanding and support for sustainable energy by providing people with the opportunity to visit, see, touch and talk about the projects in their own backyards.
