May 28th, 2008 12:41 PM

Media Advisory Attention: News, Business and Agriculture Reporters and Editors Ontario’s Chief Energy Conservation Officer recognizes Eastern Ontario farm for energy innovation (Vankleek Hill, Ontario) In August 2007, local farmers George, Linda and Terry Heinzle installed a biodigester to process and convert manure from their 260 cow operation and generate electricity. Currently, there are 4 biodigesters in operation in the province (a second is located on George’s brothers adjacent farm). The electricity and associated waste heat used for space heating produced from the Heinzle’s biodigester (approx 4,300 KWH per day) produces between 7 to 10 times the energy necessary to operate the farm operations and residence. The biodigester installation and related equipment costs will have an estimated payback period of between 5 and 7 years. WHAT: Peter Love, Ontario’s Chief Energy Conservation Officer, will conduct a site visit at the farm of George and Linda Heinzle and present them with a Certificate of Recognition.
