Media Release - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Toronto residents lend a hand to keep Toronto clean (Toronto, July 18) OneToronto.ca, which was launched earlier in the week, linked up with more than 150 volunteers in various neighbourhoods to clean up dozens of so called “hot spots” around the city. Some of these “hotspots” included: • Broadview Parkette – with Councillor Case Ootes (Ward 29 – Toronto Danforth) • Eglinton Ave. W. & Keele St. – with MPP Laura Albanese (York-South Weston), Councillor Karen Stintz (Ward 16 – Eglinton Lawrence) and local businesses • Yonge & Wellesley -- with MPP George Smitherman (Toronto Centre) • Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue -- with neighbourhood activists • Eglinton Avenue and Brimley Road -- with Councillor Michael Thompson (Ward 37 – Scarborough Centre) • Yonge Street and Finch Avenue -- with MPP David Zimmer (Willowdale) In addition to these organized activities, people across the city continue to show initiative to clean up hot spots in their own neighbourhoods, using the OneToronto.ca website to report on their own self-initiated activities. , “The people of Toronto are especially proud of their city and the ongoing efforts of residents to keep it clean prove it,” said Smitherman. “It is amazing to see so many people, in places right across the city, rolling up their sleeves to do their part to keep Toronto beautiful.” The OneToronto.ca initiative is a grassroots movement of Toronto residents who are showing pride in their city by taking positive action to keep Toronto beautiful.
