Ontario Leadership Candidate’s Call For Tax Breaks, No-Money-Down Tuition Is Heard
THUNDER BAY, December 9, 2012 - Glen Murray used his strong understanding of the new innovation economy to explain to the Ontario Liberal Leadership audience here today his plan, which will include Northern Ontario making its own decisions. “The North is different. I have been coming here and meeting with people for years, since I was Mayor of Winnipeg. Northern communities should have their own regional government, with more authority over energy, their roads, infrastructure and natural resources,” Murray said. As Premier, Glen Murray would also bring in tax cuts for modest- and middle-income Ontarians and No-Money-Down tuition for university and college students, making school more affordable when they need financial help the most. Murray wants Northerners to choose by referendum the kind of regional authority they want - a general Northern government or a separate regional government for Northeastern and Northwestern Ontario. Northern decision-making should replace parallel layers and bureaucracy at Queen’s Park, Murray said. As Premier, Murray would listen to the needs of First Nations and other Northern communities to hear what changes they believe would make their participation easier. He would bring in a “different” Ontario Liberal government, building on the current government’s successes in areas such as education, yet open to new ideas that will help dynamic start-up companies create good jobs. Glen Murray’s leadership campaign of ideas and action is built on renewal for Ontario families and our economy: • Tax cuts for the middle class and small business • No-money-down university or college tuition • Cities and towns that work • Smart government that listens - including a stronger voice for the North. “Let’s renew the Ontario Liberal Party and renew Ontario together,” Murray said.
