Media Advisory - Get Out Migration Update Five Days to Victoria Streams of Support Picking up Steam The Get Out Migration enters the final leg of the long walk to the BC Legislature (and a rally at 4 pm on May 8) this week with public events and opportunities to join Alexandra Morton and her growing band of supporters on the road. Note: Multiple events planned for May 4 Tomorrow's (May 4) migration to Nanaimo will be lead by Ittatsoo Elder Rose Wilson and 14 year old Molina Dawson from Kingcome Village. The Migration will leave Snaw-Naw-As campground in Nanoose at 8am, rendezvous at Costco (Nanaimo) at noon for a public event and walk down the Island Highway to Maffeo Sutton Park for a rally at 4pm hosted by Chief Doug White of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. The Migration will catch the 5.55pm ferry to Gabriola Island and walk up to the Agi Hall for a public event with Alexandra Morton starting at 7pm. Also on May 4, Surrey welcomes the Fraser River Paddlers for Wild Salmon in Bridgeview at noon at the Fishing Dock at the end of 130th St past 116 Ave. There will be a Community Gathering at Bridgeview Hall (11475 126A Street) or in the Park weather permitting from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. On Wednesday (May 5), Alexandra Morton will lead schoolchildren from Gabriola Elementary School on a walk at 9.45am to Silva Bay. At 11.30am there will be a gathering on the lawn of the Silva Bay Inn with a rally of boats with flags and banners. After lunch, the wooden schooner Grail Dancer will lead a flotilla to Ladysmith (arriving at the Ladysmith Maritime Society and Community Marina) for a 6pm event at the Legion Hall hosted by Doug Routley MLA. On Thursday (May 6), the Migration will leave Ladysmith primary school at 9am and walk to Duncan for a 5pm event at Civic Square (meet at 4pm at Cowichan High School to be drummed into Duncan by the Spirit Drummers). Today is a well-earned rest day with a pot luck this evening at Snaw-Naw-As campground in Nanoose to welcome the migrators from Tofino. The Migration will converge with the Fraser River paddlers in Sidney on May 7 with a public event at the Mary Winspear Theatre from 7.30 pm before the last leg to Victoria on May 8. The Migration started walking from Sointula, at the north end of Vancouver Island, on April 23 and will arrive in Victoria May 8. Hundreds of people have pledged to walk portions of the trip and public events are planned every night.
