Media Advisory – Attention Energy Reporters/News and Assignment Editors Toronto Renewable Energy Co-operative (TREC) to participate in ‘Green Day’ at the 2007 CNE Public can visit information booth and tour TREC’s waterfront wind turbine (Toronto, ON) Join TREC at the CNE this year, and participate in renewable energy oriented events. TREC will have an information booth located in the Music Building, on CNE’s ‘Green Day’ on August 21, 2007. The public can learn about TREC’s pending projects funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. This funding ($202,500 over 36 months) will assist TREC to continue to educate Toronto citizens and visitors about renewable energy, energy efficiency and conservation, as well as community based energy projects. TREC will also provide tours of its wind turbine, a waterfront and CNE landmark. Guided tours will depart from the base of the turbine, from Friday through to Sunday at 11am, 1pm and 4pm. The tours will run on the weekends of August 17 to 19, 24 to 26 and August 31 to September 2. The tours will discuss the mechanics of wind power production and how wind energy can benefit your community. “The Ontario Trillium Foundation grant was a critical factor that has enabled TREC to launch three new innovative and exciting educational initiatives,” said Judith Ramsey, long serving TREC Board member and tireless renewable energy advocate. In 2008, TREC will launch Renewable Energy Bike Tours that will follow a route that showcases Toronto’s advances in renewable energy technology such as EnWaves’ deep lake water cooling system and TREC’s wind turbine. The tours will also offer a taste of Toronto’s unique waterfront culture. Early registration for the first 2008 tours will be accepted at the TREC booth. Other upcoming events include: • The Kid’s World Energy Festival (May 7th -10th 2008 at the CNE) will be a Canadian first. It will support Ontario school curriculum requirements while providing children with a day of fun, hands-on activities for grade five students. The Festival will focus on critical themes including climate change, energy conservation and renewable energy. • A Toronto Renewable Energy Documentary will be released in 2009. Designed as an educational tool, it’s expected the documentary will increase awareness and educate the public about the importance of renewable energy, while showcasing Toronto’s contributions to advancing renewable energy initiatives. -30- For further information, contact: Joanna Slezak, TREC Education Coordinator, (416) 977-5093, ext.24 TREC is a non-profit, co-operative, environmental organization focused in the area of renewable energy.
