FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Captain Condom delivers ‘French Letters’ to heads of industry (Campbell River, B.C., November 18, 2010) – Superheroes 4 Salmon yesterday (17th) delivered a ‘Safe Salmon’ message to the head offices of Marine Harvest, Cermaq, Grieg and BCSFA in Campbell River urging the industry to adopt closed containment protection. At the same time, the House of Commons ‘Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans’ was conducting a visit of AgriMarine’s closed containment operation before flying to Washington state to inspect AquaSeed’s closed system. Superheroes 4 Salmon will be inspecting feedlots throughout B.C. in the run up to the transfer of powers away from the Province to the Federal Government on December 18, 2010 – including flying visits on Friday (December 19, 2010) to salmon farms in the Wild Salmon Narrows. “Use protection or pull out,” said Captain Condom. “The B.C. salmon farming industry is playing Russian roulette with Pacific wild salmon by operating disease-ridden Atlantic feedlots on migration routes. Unprotected salmon farming is the antithesis of the precautionary principle and a recipe for ecological disaster. The Government must play hard ball with those companies operating irresponsibly and spreading infectious diseases.” “The salmon farming industry must rise to the occasion and embrace salmon-safe closed containment technology,” said Wonder Salmon. “Please don’t take the soft option and continue pumping untreated waste effluent into pristine coastal waters. With my Lasso of Truth the Superheroes 4 Salmon will whip this industry into shape – kicking and screaming if we have to.” “Infectious diseases thrive in dark nooks and crannies,” said Batman. “The B.C. salmon farming needs to come clean by providing unfettered access to all disease data rather than keeping dirty secrets. Superheroes 4 Salmon will stand firm in the fight against the global menace of Salmon Transferable Diseases (STDs) which are threatening the planet’s precious wild salmon stocks.” Superheroes 4 Salmon will be paying flying visits to salmon feedlots in the Broughton Archipelago, Wild Salmon Narrows and Clayoquot Sound as well as to the Cohen Commission in Vancouver. Superheroes 4 Salmon have issued a global call for finned crusaders with The Watchmen, Thor, Aquaman and Super-Salmon joining the ranks in the coming weeks. Earlier this week, Superheroes 4 Salmon launched their new campaign: ‘Justice for Wild Salmon’. For more information including photos please visit: www.superheroes4salmon.org
