Media Invitation International Peace Day event to be held in Toronto September 21, 2009 Toronto, Sept. 17, 2009: The Toronto Chapter of Children's International Summer Villages (CISV) will hold a Chain of Peace event on Monday, Sept. 21, 7:30 pm, at the Peace Garden in Toronto City Hall's Nathan Philips Square. The goal of the event is to raise awareness of human hardships existing in conflict zones around the world Toronto-area children and young adults will encircle the Peace Garden with a paper chain bearing the names of supporters and facts about conflict zones, and discuss insights they have learned through CISV group activities. Members of the media are welcome to attend, spokespersons will be available for comment. CISV is an international non-profit organization dedicated to fostering world peace through building international friendships. CISV has chapters in over 200 cities around the world and has been active in Canada for over 50 years. CISV has many programs for different ages including international village events for 11-year old children from different countries. The educational goals of these villages are: • to help participants learn to understand and appreciate people of different cultures; • to provide an experience in active coexistence; and • to provide the opportunity to participate creatively in decision making.
