Jul 30th, 2007 11:09 AM

Media Release - For Immediate Release Liza Homes builds 50 ENERGY STARĀ® qualified houses in Whitby development (WHITBY, ON, June 27, 2007) Bryan Young, representing the Office of the Chief Energy Conservation Officer of Ontario, today awarded a coveted Certificate of Recognition to Sharok Mansouri, President of Liza Homes, for his company's outstanding commitment to energy conservation. The event took place at Liza Homes' Grand Opening Phase II in Whitby, a development of 50 ENERGY STAR qualified homes. ENERGY STAR qualified homes are approximately 30% more efficient than homes built to minimum Ontario Building Code requirements, while saving up to 3 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions and up to 1200 kWh in electricity savings each year. "Just as the ENERGY STAR rating is a guarantee of energy efficiency, we too want Liza-built homes to be the standard for quality in new-home construction," said Mansouri. Earlier in the day, Peter Love, Ontario's first Chief Energy Conservation Officer, visited the site. "I'm impressed by what I see here," he said. "We're still committed to making more changes to the Ontario Building Code, but until that happens, we're happy to see builders like Liza Homes make energy efficiency improvements on their own." "Home buyers are demanding more than just luxury finishes," said Young. "They are also looking for ways to reduce energy consumption, reduce damage to the environment, and contribute to a culture of conservation." The ENERGY STAR qualified homes built by Liza Homes include higher than standard levels of insulation in attics, exposed floors and basements; dual pane, ENERGY STAR low-E argon windows; programmable thermostats and 90% efficient natural gas furnaces. ENERGY STAR qualified homes are performance tested, third party verified and government backed. - 30 - For more information: LIZA Homes Contact: Nargues Mansouri, 905-881-1026 x283 EnerQuality Corporation: Michelle Cote, 416-447-0077 CECO Contact: Media Hotline, 416-969-6703 About the Chief Energy Conservation Officer: The CECO will assume leadership for developing and implementing energy conservation initiatives, advising on relevant government policy and targets for conservation, and educating and promoting energy conservation to all Ontarians.
