Mitchell site of Ontario's newest energy-efficient homes

Media Release - For Immediate Release Attention Home/Energy/News Reporters and Editors Mitchell site of Ontario's newest energy-efficient homes All new homes at Thamesview Estates to be ENERGY STAR® qualified (Mitchell, Ontario, May 24, 2007) Mitchell is the newest location in Ontario for energy-efficient, ENERGY STAR qualified homes. Mayor John Van Bakel, Deputy Mayor Gerry Kehl, Michelle Cote of EnerQuality Corporation and Brian Neely of Thamesview Estates announced today that ENERGY STAR qualification will be standard in all new homes at Thamesview Estates. Every ENERGY STAR qualified home is performance tested, third party verified and government backed to ensure it is energy-efficient. These homes are approximately 30% more energy-efficient than those built to minimum Ontario building code requirements. As a result, they are more environmentally friendly, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 3 tonnes a year. "Homeowners benefit the environment and themselves, through reduced greenhouse gas emissions and lower utility bills," said Mr. Neely. "We are proud to be the first homebuilder in Mitchell to offer ENERGY STAR qualified homes." Located on Sunset Drive and Napier Street, near the Mitchell Golf and Country Club, Thamesview Estates will comprise a total of 70 homes ranging from 1,250 to 2,000 sq. ft. Homeowners will have the option of choosing among 6 models, and features such as 9 foot ceilings, stone exterior, and covered porches, with the benefit of design consulting services. Energy-efficiency is achieved through higher quality construction, in addition to low-e argon windows; more insulation; an energy-efficient furnace; a heat recovery ventilator (HRV); and a programmable thermostat, among other energy saving features. "All of these components combine to create an energy-efficient, environmentally friendly home," said Ms. Cote. "I'm very pleased that Mr. Neely has made the decision to make ENERGY STAR qualification a standard at Thamesview Estates, demonstrating leadership and excellence in building."
