Media Release – For Immediate Release Attention Home/Energy/News Reporters and Editors Sherwood Homes first to build energy efficient, ENERGY STAR® qualified homes in Collingwood (Collingwood, Ontario, February 23, 2007) Collingwood is the newest location for energy efficient, ENERGY STAR qualified homes. Corey McBurney of EnerQuality Corporation was on hand as Terry Kloepfer, Regional Manager, Sherwood Homes Collingwood, announced that ENERGY STAR qualification will be standard in all new single detached homes in Georgian Meadows, located at 6th Street and 10th Line. Every ENERGY STAR qualified home is performance tested, third party verified and government backed to ensure it is energy efficient. These homes are approximately 30% more energy efficient than those built to minimum Ontario building code requirements. As a result, they are more environmentally friendly, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 3 tonnes a year. “As part of Sherwood Homes’ ongoing program to promote better building practices and raise environmental awareness, we are proud to be the first homebuilder in Collingwood to offer ENERGY STAR qualified homes,” said Mr. Kloepfer. “The benefits extend far beyond the homebuilding industry. The environment is aided through the conservation of resources, while homeowners enjoy reduced operating costs and healthier, more comfortable homes!” Georgian Meadows, with Blue Mountain Golf Club directly across 10th Line, combines town and country to create an estate-housing feel. Bungalow and 2-story models range from 1,100 sq.ft. to over 3,000 sq.ft., and feature a wide range of luxury features and finishes. “Inside and out, these homes look like other luxury homes, except they are better built and contain higher quality products to make them more energy efficient,” said Ron Salisbury, EnerGuide and Quality Control Manager for Sherwood Homes. In addition to tighter construction, each home contains low-e argon windows; more insulation; an energy efficient furnace; a heat recovery ventilator (HRV); and a programmable thermostat, among other energy saving features. “All of these components combine to create an energy efficient, environmentally friendly home that is more comfortable and less expensive to live in,” said Mr. McBurney. “I’m very pleased that Sherwood Homes has made the decision to make ENERGY STAR qualification a standard at Georgian Meadows. They are demonstrating leadership and excellence in building.” For more information, contact the Georgian Meadows Sales office, located at 11 Marina Crescent, at 705-444-8344. -30- For more information or to arrange interviews, contact: Brent Kulba, Environmental Communication Options, 416-972-7401 Katherine Crespo, Reid’s Heritage Homes, 1-877-88-REIDS or 519-658-6656, kcrespo@heritagehomes.com ENERGY STAR® for New Homes is a label given to homes that meet balanced, whole-house energy-efficiency standards, guaranteeing their owners significant energy savings.
