Held today in Markham, in conjunction with the Ontario Building & Renovation Forum, the Excellence Awards were presented to outstanding building professionals and homebuilders for advancing energy efficiency in new home construction. Mr. Elliott won because of his contribution to the industry through his participation in the ENERGY STARĀ® for New Homes, EnerGuide for New Houses and R-2000 initiatives, and for providing outstanding professional service to such prominent Ottawa homebuilders as Urbandale Homes, Valecraft Homes and Metric Homes. In 2006 alone, Mr. Elliott evaluated and labeled almost 300 homes in the Ottawa region. EnerQuality manages the three popular energy efficiency initiatives in Ontario targeting new housing: ENERGY STAR for New Homes, R-2000 and EnerGuide for New Houses. These three initiatives have a total of 354 participating homebuilders including the largest builders in the country and the support of government and private sector partners including Natural Resources Canada, Ontario's Conservation Bureau, Enbridge Gas Distribution, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, DuPont Tyvek, Icynene, Owens Corning, and OZZ Corporation. With 20 years experience as an energy auditor, Mr. Elliott has completed over 1,000 EnerGuide for Houses evaluations across Canada and is highly regarded in the industry. He has also been actively promoting the growth of the initiatives, having mentored many new evaluators and chairing EnerQuality's Evaluator Council. "It's great to be recognized with this award," said Mr. Elliott. "Evaluators are doing a lot to improve energy efficiency. We are the frontline people working with builders and the trades to help them deliver houses that meet the high energy efficiency requirements to be ENERGY STAR qualified." Corey McBurney, Managing Director of EnerQuality, said Mr. Elliott's reputation and commitment to his customers have helped transform the market over the last two decades. "Because of individuals like Ross, ENERGY STAR for New Homes really took off in 2006 with more than 800 homes qualified across Ontario. Ross has been instrumental to this market transformation, having labeled the most ENERGY STAR qualified homes in 2006." Richard Sachs, President of Urbandale Construction Ltd., congratulated Mr. Elliott, saying, "Ross has been extremely helpful to Urbandale Construction. His contribution to the ENERGY STAR for New Homes initiative has really made the difference for us." -30- For more information, high quality photos and information about ENERGY STAR for New Homes, R-2000 and EnerGuide for New Houses, contact Brent Kulba at 416-972-7401 ENERGY STARĀ® for New Homes is a label earned only by homes that have met strict requirements, allowing homebuyers to rely on the performance tested, third party verified, government backed ENERGY STAR label to know they are buying the most efficient house on the market. New homes that receive this label are approximately 30 percent more energy efficient than those built to the minimum Ontario Building Code standards. The ENERGY STAR mark is administered and promoted in Canada by Natural Resources Canada and is used with permission. R-2000 certified homes offer both energy efficiency and green building features. Only licensed R-2000 builders who have been trained and certified can build R-2000 homes. R-2000 is an official mark of Natural Resources Canada and is used with permission. EnerGuide for New Houses is a rating system that informs consumers and supports choice by measuring the energy use and efficiency of a new house.
