Home Energy Evaluator in Ottawa wins Evaluator of the Year Award

PHOTOS AVAILABLE (Markham, January 12, 2007) The EnerQuality Corporation recognized Ross Elliott, President of Homestead Building Solutions, with the Evaluator of the Year Award (sponsored by DOW Chemical) at the EnerQuality Excellence Awards ceremony. Held today in Markham, in conjunction with the Ontario Building & Renovation Forum, the Excellence Awards were presented to outstanding building professionals and homebuilders for advancing energy efficiency in new home construction. Mr. Elliott won because of his contribution to the industry through his participation in the ENERGY STAR® for New Homes, EnerGuide for New Houses and R-2000 initiatives, and for providing outstanding professional service to such prominent Ottawa homebuilders as Urbandale Homes, Valecraft Homes and Metric Homes. In 2006 alone, Mr. Elliott evaluated and labeled almost 300 homes in the Ottawa region. EnerQuality manages the three popular energy efficiency initiatives in Ontario targeting new housing: ENERGY STAR for New Homes, R-2000 and EnerGuide for New Houses. These three initiatives have a total of 354 participating homebuilders including the largest builders in the country and the support of government and private sector partners including Natural Resources Canada, Ontario's Conservation Bureau, Enbridge Gas Distribution, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, DuPont Tyvek, Icynene, Owens Corning, and OZZ Corporation. With 20 years experience as an energy auditor, Mr. Elliott has completed over 1,000 EnerGuide for Houses evaluations across Canada and is highly regarded in the industry. He has also been actively promoting the growth of the initiatives, having mentored many new evaluators and chairing EnerQuality's Evaluator Council. "It's great to be recognized with this award," said Mr. Elliott. "Evaluators are doing a lot to improve energy efficiency. We are the frontline people working with builders and the trades to help them deliver houses that meet the high energy efficiency requirements to be ENERGY STAR qualified."
