Douglas Marshall remembered and honoured with Hall of Fame Award

PHOTOS AVAILABLE Belleville energy efficiency consultant Douglas Marshall remembered and honoured with Hall of Fame Award (Markham, January 12, 2007) The late Douglas Marshall of Marshall Consulting was the recipient of the prestigious EnerQuality Hall of Fame Award (sponsored by Natural Resources Canada). The Award was accepted by his wife Kim and daughter Kristen Marshall at the awards ceremony held in conjunction with the Ontario Building & Renovation Forum in Markham today. Douglas Marshall made a lasting contribution, improving energy efficiency within Canada's new housing market before he passed away in April 2006. His commitment to energy efficiency in the home building industry had a significant impact on the development and delivery of the R-2000, ENERGY STAR® for New Homes and EnerGuide for New Houses initiatives. He left a legacy of market transformation and awareness. From the early 1980s, he was active in the R-2000 initiative. His company, Marshall Consulting, built several R-2000 houses and provided professional services to numerous other builders. More recently, he was the most active Energy Evaluator, working with forward-thinking homebuilders across Ontario, from Toronto to Ottawa, advising them and testing their houses to meet the stringent ENERGY STAR for New Homes standard for Ontario. Mr. Marshall advocated for and trained many people in the science and skill of energy efficient home building. At today's ceremony, his daughter Kristen recounted, "When a prospective client requested an R-2000 home, Dad was faced with taking a two day builders' workshop or losing a sale. Dad chose to take the workshop, and in his own words, 'got the worst case of religion.' His passion changed the direction of his business for the next 20 years and was evident as he trained many future builders, evaluators and energy efficiency inspectors."
