Consumers Council of Canada to address national and provincial inequities in energy efficiency for houses

Media Advisory Attention News/Assignment Editors and Reporters Consumers Council of Canada to address national and provincial inequities in energy efficiency for houses Intent on protecting consumers and eliminating gap between ‘winners’ and ‘losers’ (Ottawa, ON) The Consumers Council of Canada, with the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance, is holding a media conference on Wednesday, October 3rd at 10 AM in the Charles-Lynch Room in Ottawa to address national and provincial inequities in energy efficiency for houses. The National Building Code, which does not consider energy efficiency, has been adopted by Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon and the Territories. The only provinces with building codes that consider energy efficiency in new house construction are British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, and to a lesser extent Alberta. Joan Huzar, founding member of the Consumers Council of Canada, and Ken Elsey, Executive Director of the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance, will discuss how resolving these inequities will protect Canadian consumers.
