Mar 28th, 2007 11:37 AM
Media Advisory - Attention News/Assignment/Photo Editors
(Kapuskasing, Ontario) Peter Love will present a Certificate of Recognition to Tembec for their support in helping build a Culture of Conservation in Ontario.
Tembec's papermaking Spruce Falls Operation in Kapuskasing was the first applicant when the Ontario Power Authority's Demand Response Program (DRP) began accepting applications effective June 23, 2006.
The DRP allows large power consumers to be paid to not consume power during periods of high electricity demand. A rigorous set of criteria must be met before the companies enrolled in the program can "bid into" the market.
Literally within days of the DRP going operational, the value of this tool was demonstrated. On August 1, 2006 when the highest (provincial) record for hourly electricity demand was set - DRP enrollees responded by contributing up to 182 MWH of reduced demand.
