Media Release BOMA Toronto's CDM program hits $10 million milestone (Toronto, August 5, 2009) The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Toronto's Conservation Demand Management (CDM) Program has hit a significant milestone in its delivery of electricity conservation incentives - $10,000,000 in committed conservation incentives for over 100 buildings in Toronto. The CDM program, funded by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA), has committed $10,000,000 in retrofit incentives, for commercial buildings of 25,000 square feet or larger located in the '416' telephone exchange area. This commitment has leveraged in excess of $70,000,000 of capital expenditures by building owners and tenants to complete the electricity conservation projects. To date, the CDM program has accumulated an estimated 123,500,000 KWH, enough to power 12,350 Ontario homes for one year. Qualified Program Participants include owners and tenants of commercial office buildings, retail properties, hotels, entertainment venues and mixed-use industrial facilities. The Rogers Centre and Scotia Tower are among the many buildings which have been retrofitted. Popular retrofits that have been funded include lighting, HVAC redesign and replacements, deep lake water cooling systems and the installation of variable frequency drives. Many participants in BOMA Toronto's CDM Program own real estate across Canada. Most of them are interested in seeing the Program expanded throughout Ontario. Though no decision has been made in this regard, BOMA Toronto is looking at extending the program. Wayne Proulx, Director, CDM Program, 416-440-0101 or email rwproulx@bomatoronto.org The BOMA Toronto CDM Program has been contracted to deliver electricity conservation to the large Ontario commercial real estate market as part of the OPA's larger plan to deliver 6300 megawatts of electricity reduction in Ontario from various sources. The available incentives, which are capped at 40% of the eligible projects costs, are for peak demand, consumption or cooling ton reduction, at a rate of $400 per kilowatt, $0.05 a kilowatt hour or $250 per ton (for geothermal space cooling systems), respectively. The Program is designed to maximize participation by a simple application process and the quick delivery of incentive payments upon project completion.
