BEACHES-EAST YORK, ON – June 29, 2026 - Arthur Potts, former Ontario legislator, clean energy advocate and business leader, is seeking the Liberal Party of Canada nomination in the upcoming federal by-election in Beaches-East York.
Potts filed his nomination papers with the National Liberal Party late last week. The riding is currently represented by Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, who has signaled his intention to resign. Potts congratulates and thanks Nate for his years of exemplary service to the riding.
Potts, while serving as the Liberal Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Beaches-East York (2014-2018),was very successful in resolving constituent concerns and issues. He passed several Private Members Bills including one that stopped AirMiles loyalty points from expiring, saving consumers millions of dollars in loyalty points. He held key parliamentary responsibilities, including serving as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change where he played an active role in advancing Ontario’s clean energy transition and environmental policy agenda.
Potts is ready to deliver experienced, pragmatic leadership to Ottaw. He brings a deep personal connection to the area, having knocked on every door at least five times, and a wealth of legislative experience. Drawing on his decades of public service, entrepreneurial leadership, and community engagement he would be an excellent choice to represent Beaches-East York at a critical moment for Canada and Toronto’s east end.
Potts states his campaign will focus on several key priorities for residents and families. To address the number one issue of affordability, he would champion greater supports for low-income earners and workers displaced by tariffs and technology. He contends, re-training, entrepreneurial incentives and supports for new construction and manufacturing will help grow jobs and the economy.
His background in the low-carbon economy directly supports Prime Minister Mark Carney’s goal of making Canadian cleantech a global leader.
