Rob Keen, RPF, to speak on the importance of tree planting in the fight against climate change

Sudbury, ON (October 11, 2019) - Rob Keen, Registered Professional Forester and CEO of Forests Ontario, will speak about the importance of large-scale tree planting to help mitigate the effects of climate change at the Sudbury Naturalists Club Meeting on October 15th.

Keen, a forestry professional for 38 years, will discuss the importance of tree planting as a powerful climate change mitigation tool. He will be available for interviews during the afternoon prior to his presentation.

Forests Ontario is a non-profit tree planting, forest education and awareness charity. Forests Ontario drew headlines this year after the Government of Ontario cut funding for the 50 Million Tree Program (50 MTP); the federal government later stepped in to save the program. Using a provincial network of planting professionals, Forests Ontario has planted more than 27 million trees on private land, through the 50 MTP, since 2008.

The Sudbury Naturalists Club is a grassroots volunteer group that focuses on knowledge of local water resources and wildlife, landscaping and environmental revitalization. The community group, which has been active for more than 25 years, supports numerous protection programs and community initiatives with the aim to enhance the environment in the Greater Sudbury area.
